Rainy Days...

I love rainy days, don't you? I could be in the worst mood possible, having such a rough time, and the instant that I hear the soothing pulse of the rain hitting the earth, it all disappears. Everything changes... I'm swiftly brought back to the memories of the amazing rainy days that I experienced while growing up in Iowa. I don't know exactly what it was about the rainstorms there that had such an impact on me, but whatever it may be, even to this day, when I hear the rain, the whole world seems to stop for a few heartbeats.
I find it to be rather calming, almost as though a blanket of protection encompasses me and keeps me safe from certain things in life. A muted sense of fearlessness dwells just beneath my skin, and, for a bit, petty nuances no longer deter me from feeling relaxed. Suddenly, I am at peace. Clinging to the sound, the smell, the feel of the water falling from the skies.
I could truly watch the rain for hours on end. Storms can captivate my soul. They pull me from whatever has grabbed my spirit and send my senses out in to a hypnotic state of bliss. It's a feeling that I wish others could share with me. Maybe, through my words, some of you can close your eyes, open your mind, and feel my memories too... As for me, I'm headed to jump into the nearest (and largest) puddle!

Screaming child

Oh screaming child, why do you scream?
Do you longer and yearn for a cone of ice cream?

Are you mad, angry, or even annoyed
That your siblings decided to take all your toys?

Are there reasons behind your sounds of defiance?
Reasons, perhaps that pass right on by us?

If there is a reason, then please let us know
So those all around you don't hear more of your show.

Quiet yourself, be calm, its alright,
Then put your head down for a nap, or the night.

Oh quiet child, who's screaming is gone
Your toy was right with you, in your hand all along.

The parents are happy, and those in the store,
Wont look at you with a frown anymore.

~*~Pain~*~

Pain

Today I have decided to talk about a very personal and serious issue for me. I apologize in advance if I step on any toes, but I do have a disclaimer at the start of my blog site. I'm in the mood to be brutally honest and to wear my heart even more vividly on my sleeve than normal.

I have a condition called Fibromyalgia: read the descriptors, then what I have to say...

fi·bro·my·al·gia
[fahy-broh-mahy-al-juh]
–noun Pathology .
a syndrome characterized by fatigue and chronic pain in the muscles and in tissues surrounding the joints.

fibromyalgia  (ˌfaɪbrəʊmaɪˈældʒɪə)

Medical Dictionary

Word Origin & History
fibromyalgia
1981, said to have been coined by U.S. rheumatologist Mohammed Yunus, from L. fibra  (see fiber) + Gk. mys  (gen. myos ) "muscle" (see muscle) + -algia. The earlier name for the condition was fibrositis .

People think that they need to see a bone protruding from the skin in order to believe another person actually has pain... I find that so offensive... and close minded.

Another frustrating point:
People are always telling me to milk the system and to take the easy route in dealing with my pain. Here are their brilliant ideas: get a handicap parking sticker, ask for disability, lie to my doctors so that they give me medicinal marijuana. Seriously????

I am, however, annoyed by a few of the people that I work with who are ignorant to the idea of this type of pain that I have. Because of my pain I park out in front of my store, sometimes even closer on bad pain days. A few people have their two cents worth that they feel they need to throw at me about that. Again, ignorant. On the other side of the coin, they like to make comments about how I behave on my bad pain days... like I can help how active I am. Really? Sometimes my pain meds react a little intensely when combined with a really bad pain day... What happens? You guessed it. More comments... Ugh... Will it ever end?

My job...

I love my job... have I ever mentioned that??? I have so much fun doing what I do! This new cycle of classes since I returned from Colorado has been awesome! My classes are 7 weeks long. It all started on Sunday the 23rd of January... Basic class at 12:30pm and then a Puppy class at 2:00pm. That may not seem like much, but in the Basic class I have 4 dogs... in the Puppy class, 7!!! It is a BLAST!!!
This week I have a Basic class of 4 starting Monday, a Puppy class of 3 starting Wednesday, and a Basic class of 2 starting the following Sunday... LOVE IT!!! BUSY BUSY BUSY!!! What makes my job even better, are my clients. I love the people I help, and even more so, their adorable dogs.
One of the dogs in my 2:00pm Puppy class is a Great Pyrenees named Roonie. Talk about adorable... He is a voracious puppy when it comes to playtime! This big ole puff ball has such determination to make every other dog in class his best buddy. But his main goal for now is to make Miko love him.
Miko is a Chin-Chon, a Japanese Chin and a Bichon Frise mix. Miko was so timid week one, that all she did was either hide under her mom's chair, or attempt to get inside her mom's purse!!! Week two she had a major break through: instead of trying to hide, she decided to make an effort to play with one of two Westies in her class. Her pounce attack gets stronger every day. It's now week three and Miko plays right along side of all the other puppies! Back to these Westies...
The Westie: officially known as the West Highland White Terrier. I am blessed to have two of them in this Puppy class! Boy and girl; brother and sister; Mac and Sophie. Mac and Sophie are night and day different, but both so very loving, not to mention WICKED smart! These two puppies are so smart that they could EASILY get through Intermediate classes before they are a year old. However... they are also quite stubborn... it comes with the terrier-tory. LOL! They love learning new commands annd respond very well to working through distractions. Most puppies their age don't even have the drive to want to be as smart as them.
Speaking of wicked smart... Tiberius. This is an incredibly intelligent puppy! He would make an EXCELLENT therapy dog. Tiberius is a Pit Mix and such a sweetheart! This cuddly little guy is a prime example of just how amazing this breed is. All he wants to do is make you proud of him. He will pick up on a new command on the first attempt. He has a remarkable attention span for a puppy as young as he is! Well if we are getting into the discussion of attention spans, then this should be interesting...
Bubba... gotta love Bubba. If you can imagine a long haired Speedy Gonzales on crack... that's Bubba. I love this little ball of energy. Bubba is a Silky Poo; a Silky Terrier mixed with a Toy Poodle. During the socialization part of class, he becomes a blur... running so fast that you can't even pick out nose from tail, back from belly, ears from paw pads... :-D He's so funny. This week though, we need to pray for him... he got his balls cut off... We also need to pray for his parents... because, although he just got neutered... it will still take him about two months for those hormones to quit raging! So he will still be a bit hyper for a while more. Probably in a similar way to how Lab puppies can be.
Ahh... Charlie Bear... our Yellow Labrador Retriever... He is such an excited individual! This dog is so happy-go-lucky that he is oblivious to anything that could make him upset. He will go racing through the play ring so fast and slam into the fence so hard, or even thump so heavily on the concrete it makes me hurt... Does it slow him down??? NOPE! lol Gotta love Labs... and when he takes the time to slow down enough to listen to commands, he does such a wonderful job!!! Although he's normally so preoccupied with getting pounced on by a giant fluff ball... which brings us back to...
ROONIE!!! What a fluffy moose of a dog. He is such a sweetheart. Everytime he sees me, he tries to find a way to climb right on up into my lap. Well he doesn't really climb; it's more of a flop I guess... This dog has heart though, and he is always looking for ways to make your day brighter. This poor dog did have a rough day today and it broke my heart. I hate it when puppies have tummy aches... but never you fear!!! About an hour after he went home, I called to check on him and he was back to his fiesty self!
So, to recap: A trained dog, is a happy dog. Oh, and did I mention that I LOVE MY JOB!?!?!?

If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life!
