Now... where to begin???
I train dogs... any dogs... all dogs... and in my line of work I see it all. Smart owners, stupid owners, active owners, lazy owners, *Do-It-Yourself* owners (those can be entertaining), *Leave-it-to-someone-else-to-train-their-dog* owners, YOU NAME IT! What I like the most is to watch them all from a distance... You can typically get a good idea of a person just by observing them from a distance; no not all creepy and stalker-like, but just to see how they handle things on their own. Although, some can shock even me... and let me tell you... this Black Friday weekend was no different!
I love when a person asks me for help with so many things for their new dog: What do I feed them? How does this collar fit? What are appropriate toys? Can I dress it in clothes (:-/)? Can a boy dog have a pink leash? Can I name my girl dog Butch? ETC. But my all-time pet peeve is when I spend a good hour *showing them the ropes* and all the while their dog is dragging them across the floor, barking and chewing on other people's pant legs... and when I offer them assistance as a dog trainer (Nationally Certified by-the-way), they laugh and say "Oh no! *snicker* We train all our own dogs." .... *O_O* Really...? But don't worry, they will typically be back in a week when their perfectly trained new dog tries to eat everything in sight... including the cat and daddy's new laptop... Then I do my thing.
I wonder, will it ever end? I hope not! It gives an awesome twist to my job!!!
A girl dog named Butch is no worse than a wonderful girl dog named Ralph.
